Google Chrome
I downloaded Google Chrome today here are my first observations… and 1 or 2 “hidden features” I found
I have not validated this browser for security controls yet (that is coming). These are just my initial thoughts on the basic functionality.
Overall, it’s worth a try if you use Windows as your OS (or Browsing VM). You can download it here.
Pros:
1. It just works and it works fast.
2. Browser is really clean, fast and intuitive.
3. Incognito Browsing is an interesting toy. Basically it disables cookies. Very Similar to “Private Browsing in IE8”.
4. If you like bookmarks the drag/drop bookmark bar seems very intuitive.
5. Application shortcuts (web pages/applications) saved as desktop shortcuts from the browser work - Google Gears integration (not for me but someone will like it I’m sure)
6. Tab control- organizing them, re-organizing them is easy.
7. Advanced Features: (Things I found playing)
Try These URLs: (Similar to about pages in Opera/Firefox with some added functionality)
about:Memory (or stats for nerds from Task Manager in Chrome)
about:Network and Start Tracking then browse to a web page in another tab. The Traffic is presented to you in an interesting manner.
about:Cache (hex cache files)
about:plugins (you can at least see what is enabled - everything).
Cons:
1. BETA does not support MAC OS X (or anything but Windows).
2. Advanced Settings (Basic, “Minor Tweaks” and “Under the Hood”) aren’t very advanced in allowing the user to control the browser. Turning on/off javascript/etc is not easily accessible. You have to trust Google to allow no evil to be done through the browser. Update: Scroll down to find Security and you can use some basic SSL/Phishing controls.
Sorry for the quick post, more on this browser as I start to find more “features”
